Electronic Design Company has a long and distinguished history in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and
in the upper Midwest. Founded in 1955, Electronic Design is one of the original sound and communications
contractors in the Twin Cities area.
Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s the company grew in the
rapidly expanding sound communications and telephone interconnection markets.
During this period, EDC became one of the region's leading communication systems integrators by providing
exceptional design, installation, training, and documentation on a
variety of high quality sound and video products. These service
strengths remain with the company today.
In the early 1980s the telephone interconnection portion of the
business was sold and the business was refocused in the education
sound communications market. In 1985, the company was sold by its
founders to its current owners and dramatically expanded into voice, video, and data networking integration services.
In 1990, EDC was awarded the first of several contracts to help
build a complex video and data network for the Minnesota
Department of Transportation. The Minneapolis/St. Paul Traffic
Management System projects involve the integration of fiber optic,
copper wire, and wireless signal transmission on both wide area and
local area networks.
The new century brought about several exciting changes for EDC. In
2001, we moved to our new building in Shoreview. In July 2002, we
incorporated the core sales, engineering and technical people from
Impulse Group LLC. With the addition of these 17 people, we
brought in the audio, video, and media management expertise that designed and installed such major installations
as the Xcel Energy Center and RiverCentre in St. Paul, MN; the Minneapolis Convention Center; and the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne, IN.
We were the audio contractor on the Guthrie on the River Theatre, and on the TCF (Gophers) Stadium project in Minneapolis, MN.
We also recently completed work on audio systems for the Cowles Arts Center in Minneapolis.
With a wide range of products and the technical and design expertise of the EDC engineering staff,
Electronic Design can tailor, not only the functionality of the system to a specific application,
but the look and the configuration of the system itself can be uniquely applied to meet every
individual situation.
